Choosing software for a garment business: eleven questions that matter

Ask about the garment specifics first

If the answer to any of these is a workaround, every order will carry that workaround for years.

• Is stock held per size and colour, or per style?
• Can a ratio pack be defined once and ordered as a pack?
• Does a style store consumption for fabric and trims?
• Does receiving open from the purchase order and update stock?
• Can rates differ per customer without editing each invoice?
• Are goods with job workers visible as incoming stock?

Then ask about the boring operational parts

Who can see what, how quickly a new person can be trained, whether documents look right to your customers, and how data leaves the system if you ever want it elsewhere. These decide whether a rollout survives its third month.

Judge on one real order, not a feature list

Take a live order from enquiry to invoice inside the trial. A feature list can be satisfied by a text field; a real order cannot.
